Agents Course (Hugging Face)

What it does

• Four core units: onboarding, agent fundamentals (tools, thoughts, actions, observations; LLMs, messages, and chat templates), frameworks, then agentic RAG use cases
• The frameworks unit covers smolagents, LlamaIndex, and LangGraph; hands-on sections run as pre-configured Hugging Face Spaces
• Unit 4 is a final project — build, test, and certify your agent on the student leaderboard; three bonus units cover function-calling fine-tuning, agent observability and evaluation, and agents in games
• Two paths — self-audit or the certification process; a certificate of completion is earned by finishing assignments

When to use it

The structured on-ramp for engineers who want agent theory and practice in one free curriculum — especially useful as a survey of three mainstream open frameworks before picking one for production, and as a source of evaluation habits via its observability bonus unit.

Getting started

No install — it is a free browser course. Start at the Unit 0 introduction, create a Hugging Face account, and sign up to receive unit links; the course text is available in English, Spanish, French, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, and Chinese.

Things to know

The frameworks unit teaches smolagents, LlamaIndex, and LangGraph — not Claude-specific tooling — so pair it with vendor docs when targeting Claude Code or the Agent SDK. The course is a living project: unit content and challenges have kept evolving, so treat the syllabus page as the source of truth.
