What it does

  • Kotlin Multiplatform SDK targeting JVM, Native, JS and Wasm from one codebase
  • Ships on Maven Central as io.modelcontextprotocol:kotlin-sdk, with kotlin-sdk-client / kotlin-sdk-server for one-sided APIs
  • Transport menu: STDIO, Streamable HTTP, SSE, WebSocket, plus a ChannelTransport for tests
  • Covers the MCP primitive set — prompts, resources, tools, completion, logging, pagination — with client-side roots and sampling

When to use it

Pick it when one MCP codebase must serve JVM and web/native targets alike; Ktor powers the HTTP transports (Kotlin 2.2+, JVM 11+).

Things to know

The SDK does not add Ktor engine dependencies transitively — you declare Ktor client/server engine dependencies yourself or reuse your project's.
