Official C# / .NET implementation of the Model Context Protocol, hosted by Microsoft under the modelcontextprotocol org. Targets .NET 8+, integrates with ASP.NET Core hosting and dependency injection. The path for MCP in the .NET ecosystem.

What it does

  • Official C#/.NET SDK layered into NuGet packages: ModelContextProtocol.Core (minimum deps), the main package with hosting and DI, and ModelContextProtocol.AspNetCore for HTTP servers
  • Extensions.Apps builds interactive UI applications that render inside MCP hosts
  • Extensions.Tasks runs long-running tool invocations asynchronously with status polling and input requests
  • For .NET applications, services and libraries implementing or consuming MCP clients and servers

When to use it

The .NET-services pick — Core covers client or low-level server use with fewest dependencies, while the AspNetCore package hosts HTTP-based MCP servers.

Things to know

Choose the package deliberately: Core has no hosting extensions, and HTTP server support lives only in the AspNetCore package.
