Anthropic SDK for Ruby

Official Anthropic Ruby SDK for the Claude API.

SDKs & Toolingofficialsdkrubyclaude-api

Ruby client for the Claude Messages API. Drop-in `Anthropic::Client` with both Faraday and Net::HTTP transport adapters.

What it does

  • Official Anthropic SDK for Ruby, distributed as the anthropic gem (README pins ~> 1.78.0)
  • Anthropic::Client with messages.create — the README's getting-started call passes max_tokens, messages and model together
  • API key read from ENV["ANTHROPIC_API_KEY"] by default, so the parameter can be omitted
  • Full API docs hosted at platform.claude.com/docs/en/api/sdks/ruby

When to use it

The official path for Ruby 3.2+ shops that need the Claude API inside existing Rails or scripting code — pair it with the API-fundamentals course when onboarding engineers.

Getting started

Add to your application's Gemfile:

gem "anthropic", "~> 1.78.0"

Then bundle install and require "anthropic".

Things to know

Requires Ruby 3.2.0 or newer (README Requirements section) — check your runtime before adding the gem.
