Aider

Terminal-based AI pair programmer that edits git-tracked files.

Plugins & Agentsclipair-programming

An open-source CLI that lets you pair-program with Claude and other LLMs; every change is committed with a descriptive message.

What it does

  • Terminal pair-programmer that edits files directly in your git repo
  • Maps your whole codebase (repo map) so it works in larger projects, not just single files
  • Every change is committed with a descriptive message — the git history stays clean and reviewable
  • Works with Claude, DeepSeek, GPT-4o-class models and most other LLMs, including local models

When to use it

Best when you live in the terminal and want a git-native workflow: ask for a change, let aider edit and commit, then review the diff like any other commit. Good for refactors, small features, and fixes across many files.

Getting started

Recommended installer (PyPI):

python -m pip install aider-install
aider-install

Then run aider inside a git repo with your model's API key configured.

Things to know

Requires your own LLM API key; quality and cost depend entirely on the model you point it at.
